Product Software Engineering Architect
Job Summary:
Job Requirements
The Ad Platform Engineering organization within Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is responsible for building, enhancing, and operating a high-performance, distributed, microservice-based digital advertising platform. This platform powers billions of real-time ad decisions daily across Disney’s video-on-demand and live TV properties, including Hulu, Disney+, ESPN, and more.
Within Ad Platform Engineering, the Programmatic teams build and maintain Disney’s programmatic advertising suite of products and services that comprise Disney's Real-time Ad Exchange (DRAX). DRAX is an award-winning, proprietary supply-side platform (SSP) that enables programmatic deal configuration and integrates demand from multiple third-party sources into Disney’s ad server in real time.
Job Summary:
As a Full-Stack Product Software Engineering Architect, you will be a hands-on technical leader, setting the standard for engineering excellence as you drive the architecture, design, and delivery of resilient, large-scale, distributed platforms. You’ll impact technical direction and architecture across the organization, mentor fellow engineers, and ensure our systems are robust, secure, and future-ready.
Daily, you should bring:

● Deep expertise in full stack engineering, microservices, and modern cloud architectures.
● A growth mindset—committed to mentoring, continuous learning, and thriving in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
● Exceptional communication skills to collaborate across product, design, business, and engineering teams, and to represent engineering in strategic discussions.
● Ability to define and drive adoption of technical and operational metrics, ensuring system health and managing risk.
● Strategic thinking with a pragmatic approach to technical challenges, balancing innovation with practical execution.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
● Architect, design, implement, and support secure, highly scalable, distributed, and decoupled backend and frontend systems for programmatic advertising.
● Set technical direction and ensure alignment with best practices in code quality, maintainability, observability, and performance.
● Establish, champion, and evolve standards for system design, testing, monitoring, and deploying low-latency microservices.
● Act as a technical mentor, sharing knowledge, conducting code and design reviews, and helping engineers grow.
● Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, translating business and product requirements into technical roadmaps and robust solutions.
● Foster a culture of continuous improvement, identifying optimizations and enhancements to systems and processes.
● Support platform reliability by enhancing observability, promoting automated alerting, and participating in on-call rotations as needed.
● Ensure compliance with Disney's best practices and security policies, including use of AI and automation technologies.
● Serve as a domain authority and point of contact for technical stakeholders inside and outside engineering.
Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:
● 10+ years of software engineering experience with a leadership track record.
● Advanced proficiency in Java and Typescript.
● Expertise in JavaScript libraries and frameworks including React and Node.js.

● Strong hands-on knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, Postgres, etc.), including schema and query design, as well as NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB) database technologies.
● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of project ownership, technical leadership, and organization-wide influence.
● Strong foundation in computer science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and system design.
● Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
● Proven ability to influence engineering strategy and technical direction beyond the immediate team.
● Experience promoting best practices for security, code quality, and operational excellence in a large-scale, distributed environment.
