Lead Software Engineer (React)
Job Summary:
Job Requirements
BUILD SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF
The Walt Disney Company, together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, is a leading diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise with the following business segments: Disney Entertainment, ESPN, Disney Parks, and Experiences and Products. From humble beginnings as a cartoon studio in the 1920s to its preeminent name in the entertainment industry today, Disney proudly continues its legacy of creating world-class stories and experiences for every member of the family. Disney’s stories, characters and experiences reach consumers and guests from every corner of the globe. With operations in more than 40 countries, our employees and cast members work together to create entertainment experiences that are both universally and locally cherished.
How you will contribute to our magical experience?
Disney Financial Insights (D-Fi) is a new platform reimagining how Finance teams and budget owners across Disney interact with financial data — replacing manual pulls, static reports, and email-driven approvals with one AI-powered, orchestrated experience built on top of Disney financial systems.
We're hiring the founding engineering team for this AI framework. One theme unifies every engineering role on D-Fi: autonomy and trust. You build the surface that makes autonomous action visible and correctable — the product layer where finance workers and budget owners see and act on what the platform does. You'll own the product layer of D-Fi: the user-facing application that finance workers and budget owners interact with every day. This is the face of the platform, and the quality bar is high — every release needs to be measurably simpler and faster than what it replaces.
The Lead Software Engineer (React) will be responsible for:
- Own the product surface layer. Build and maintain the React-based frontend across all product surfaces that finance workers and budget owners use daily.
- Own the UX iteration cycle. Incorporate feedback from UAT sessions with real users, translate that feedback into concrete product improvements, and ensure every release is measurably simpler and faster than what it replaces.
- Own authentication and access. Build and maintain SSO integration and role-based UI rendering — what each persona sees and can do within the platform.
- Own identity and access management (IAM) end-to-end. Ensure a person's Disney identity is established correctly at authentication, that their data entitlements are honored consistently as that identity flows through the platform, and that when an agent acts on a user's behalf, it correctly assumes that user's identity and permissions rather than its own — no agent action should ever grant a user more access than they'd have acting directly.
- Own performance and accessibility standards. Set and enforce the bar for how fast and how usable the application is across every surface.
- Make autonomous agent actions visible. Design UI patterns that clearly surface what agents have done, what's pending human review, and what requires action — closing the loop between autonomous backend work and the humans who oversee it.
What we need from you to be part of this story:
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, with deep expertise in modern frontend development.
- Advanced level of English (must).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated experience owning a user-facing product end-to-end, including direct incorporation of user feedback into the roadmap.
- Strong product sense — comfort making UX judgment calls, not just implementing specs handed to you.
- Experience building role-based or permission-aware UI in a multi-persona application.
- Background building internal tools or enterprise applications is a plus, but not required — genuine curiosity about the finance domain is.
You'll be architecting, designing and writing production code.
AI/LLM:
- Experience building UI patterns for AI-generated content — surfacing confidence, sources, or groundedness to end users in an understandable way.
- Familiarity with how to design interfaces for human-in-the-loop review of autonomous or AI-driven actions.
Data & Databases:
- Working SQL fluency sufficient to understand the data models your UI surfaces
- Familiarity with a modern cloud data warehouse (Snowflake preferred) and how frontend applications should consume governed data
Programming Languages & Engineering:
- Deep React fluency required, including modern state management, performance optimization, and component architecture at scale.
- Strong TypeScript/JavaScript fluency.
- Experience with accessibility standards (WCAG or equivalent) and performance optimization for enterprise web applications.
- Familiarity with CI/CD for frontend deployment and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Identity & Access Management (IAM):
- Strong working knowledge of authentication and authorization protocols — OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML.
- Experience integrating enterprise identity providers (e.g., Okta, Azure AD/Entra ID, or equivalent) for SSO.
- Experience implementing role-based and attribute-based access control (RBAC/ABAC) consistently across UI and backend layers.
- Understanding of delegated authorization patterns — token exchange and on-behalf-of (OBO) flows — so that services and agents acting for a user inherit that user's identity and entitlements rather than a separate service identity.
- Familiarity with JWT-based identity tokens, claims design, and secure token propagation across services.
- Comfort designing identity architecture that scales to non-human actors (agents) acting under a human's delegated authority — this platform's agents must never end up more privileged than the person they're acting for.
Enterprise Systems (plus, not required):
- Exposure to ERP/EPM platforms such as SAP or Oracle EPM/Cognos, or experience building UI on top of enterprise backend systems.
