Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

The Lead, Software Engineer will be responsible for: 

  •  Design and build robust software applications, utilizing software engineering expertise to deliver high performance solutions.
  • Lead a team of engineers responsible for performing analysis and building applications ensuring a successful operator experience for delivering content to end users.
  • Design and build robust software applications, utilizing software engineering and machine learning expertise to deliver high performance solutions. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product and engineering, to identify opportunities, business impact and technical requirements.
  • Act in people supervisory capacity and serve as a technical leader, setting best practices and leading architectural discussions within the team.
  • Mentor, empower, and provide career growth opportunities for team members.
  • Prioritize tasks within a project to deliver high value initiatives, while anticipating and mitigating potential risk wherever possible.
  • Create and manage key engineering health KPIs through regular monitoring in a scalable way as systems and products expand.
  • Provide on-call rotational support as needed.

What we need from you to be part of this story:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Advanced level of English.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in backend development and proficient with one or more general purpose programming languages (Python, Java, Javascript, etc).
  • Desire to work in a start-up, fast-growth, or rapid-change environment.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify the root cause.
  • Experience with Scala Programming language or experience with functional programming (is a plus).
  • Experience with AWS technologies and cloud infrastructure (is a plus). 
  • Understanding of source control concepts and systems, CI/CD pipelines and exposure to Git (is a plus).
  • Experience with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins and Docker. Experience with messaging technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, SQS, etc.). (Is a plus).
