Vice President, Production (Disney Entertainment Television)
Job Summary:
Disney Kids & Family is a unit of Disney Entertainment Television, which oversees development and production of content geared towards kids, teens and families for Disney+, Disney Channel, Disney Jr and Disney XD.
The VP, Production will be responsible for unifying management and reporting of movie projects produced for Disney+ and assists the production department in the day-to-day operations of feature productions across a broad slate. In addition to providing oversight throughout the life-cycle of external productions, the VP will directly oversee select internal movie projects as assigned. In this role, you must be extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of complex multinational feature film production, made for streaming platforms. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with a variety of movies and animated features (both foreign and domestic) in oversight of all aspects of physical production beginning with development and pre-production budgeting and planning through post-production and final delivery and launch.
The VP, Production must also be familiar with and accustomed to working in an environment with high levels of confidentiality, plus be able to provide quick and accurate analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with production teams to create and refine templates for use on Disney+ movie productions, including budget presentation, schedules, deal precedents, credits, crew and facility rates intended to provide operational consistency across studios
- Work with 3rd party studios to oversee current movie productions; manage and assess schedules, budgets and reports, actively manage productions for delivery on time and on budget
- For internally produced movie projects as assigned, supervise all aspects of production beginning with drafting production plans and schedules, creating initial budgets prior to producer selection, and working with producing and creative teams from development through greenlight, pre-production, production, post-production, and final delivery to produce the highest quality within the constraints of the budget and schedule
- Oversee post-production scheduling and deliverables, including VFX timelines, color, sound mix, and marketing/delivery materials such as trailers and EPK assets
- Review production-related documents and cost reports, analyze and summarize performance, and provide advice and solutions to budgetary challenges while maintaining the creative integrity of the projects
- Draft and publish film planning documents, such as development and production schedules and countdowns, to keep all partners on track and informed of all deadlines. Proactively communicate any potential schedule challenges and offer workable solutions
- Supervise internal estimator, overseeing various iterations of budgets and cost reports to review crew rates, incentives and incentive tagging. Develop and supervise system to track charge-offs and create billing systems for internal overall deals with producers and production long-term leases
- Remain up to date on domestic and international production locations, including available incentives, application deadlines, and application process. Provide guidance on best fit for a distant production
- Coordinate with Production Finance to manage paperwork and approved expenditures per company guidelines
- Oversee productions working within established franchises and existing IP, ensuring adherence to brand and creative guidelines for sequels, spinoffs, and related properties
- Able to manage multiple movie projects simultaneously
Qualifications:
- 10+ years in the field of media production, including significant experience with domestic feature film productions, budgets and timelines
- Experience working and managing feature film budgets up to $85M
- 5+ years of experience in production accounting desired
- Familiarity with DGA and SAG-AFTRA theatrical/basic agreement terms as they apply to feature production
- Experience working within established franchises or existing IP a plus
- Highly collaborative and with strong interpersonal and project management skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to think strategically, solve problems, and implement solutions
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, global, results-oriented environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work efficiently in a remote work environment
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.), Movie Magic Budgeting, Production Accounting Software (PSL and Global Vista)
- SAP knowledge/skills a plus
- Diplomacy, discretion, confidentiality, versatility, and reliability are critical
- Must be flexible with the ability to multitask and work well as part of a team
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree minimum. Preferably a degree in Business, Finance, Communications, Cinema/Film Production or related field. Advanced degree a plus.
The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $239,600 to $321,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
