Product Designer II (Commerce)
Job Summary:
Job Requirements
Technology is at the heart of Disney’s past, present, and future. Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization of engineers, product developers, designers, technologists, data scientists, and more – all working to build and advance the technological backbone for Disney’s media business globally.
The team marries technology with creativity to build world-class products, enhance storytelling, and drive velocity, innovation, and scalability for our businesses. We are Storytellers and Innovators. Creators and Builders. Entertainers and Engineers. We work with every part of The Walt Disney Company’s media portfolio to advance the technological foundation and consumer media touch points serving millions of people around the world.
Here are a few reasons why we think you’d love working here:
1.Building the future of Disney’s media: Our Technologists are designing and building the products and platforms that will power our media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.
2.Reach, Scale & Impact: More than ever, Disney’s technology and products serve as a signature doorway for fans' connections with the company’s brands and stories. Disney+. Hulu. ESPN. ABC. ABC News…and many more. These products and brands – and the unmatched stories, storytellers, and events they carry – matter to millions of people globally.
3.Innovation: We develop and implement groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms, and solve complex and distinctive technical problems.
Design is centrally responsible for the design supporting all consumer-facing and business products and tooling for the Disney Entertainment & ESPN portfolio, including sports, entertainment, enterprise, UX, creative services and design research.
About the Team
Disney Streaming is changing how people watch sports, movies, and television. Fans demand content on their own terms: anywhere, anytime, on any device. Our mission is to create the best entertainment experience and push the envelope of what's possible.
The Growth and Commerce team owns the key conversion funnels of the subscriber journey — how viewers discover, sign up for, pay for, and stay with Disney+ and Hulu. Our work touches some of the most visible and highest-impact surfaces in the business, from first impression through acquisition, activation, and beyond, across web, mobile, and living room devices at a global scale.
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Product Designer II to help lead design across the subscriber growth journey. You'll take on complex, often ambiguous problems — sign-up and checkout flows, plan selection, offers and promotions, and the moments that turn a first-time visitor into a long-time viewer — and own them end-to-end, from early feature definition through shipped, measured experiences used by millions of people.
You'll work with a high degree of independence, partnering directly with product managers and engineers as a core member of the team, and you'll help raise the bar for design craft and process across the group, including mentoring more junior designers. Because growth work is measured, you'll build a sharp, evidence-based instinct for what actually moves the needle — and use that instinct to shape not just individual features, but the team's broader design strategy.
What You'll Do
- Own end-to-end design within a specific domain of the subscriber growth journey — typically building upon existing features or defining specific net-new features — from problem framing through shipped, measured experiences, checking in with a Lead or Senior Product Designer at key milestones rather than each step.
- Drive the full design process independently: user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups, translating ambiguous problems into clear design direction.
- Extend and evolve our design system, contributing new components and patterns as growth surfaces demand, and helping define the deltas between web, mobile, and living room devices.
- Partner with Product Managers and Engineers as a core collaborator from the earliest stages of a project, helping shape feature definition and scope, not just design execution.
- Own design delivery to engineering and QA — specs, redlines, edge cases, and states across multiple platforms and device types — and help junior designers do the same.
- Design for accessibility from the outset (contrast, focus order, screen reader support, remote-based navigation), and help raise the accessibility bar across the team's work.
- Help define experimentation strategy for A/B and multivariate tests, then synthesize results to shape not just the next iteration but broader team learnings.
- Build a sharp, evidence-based design instinct using research, usability testing, and product metrics — proactively identifying opportunities rather than waiting to be asked.
- Use AI-assisted tools as a core part of your workflow for exploration, prototyping, and synthesis, and help the team figure out where AI helps and where it gets in the way.
- Mentor more junior designers, help raise the bar for design craft and process, and present work regularly in critiques and reviews, articulating the reasoning behind your decisions.
Who You Are
- User-centered design is your passion — you keep the viewer's needs front of mind, even under pressure to ship fast.
- You're an experienced Product Designer, ready to own a domain end-to-end with minimal day-to-day direction, on a world-class product design team building large-scale products.
- You see Product managers and Engineers as core partners, and you help shape product direction, not just execute it.
- You're energized by the idea that your work is measured, and you've built a sharp, evidence-based instinct for what moves the needle.
- You can scope problems within your domain yourself, ask sharp questions early, and know when to loop in a Lead or Senior versus moving forward on your own.
- You stay ahead of design practices, competitors, and industry trends, and bring that perspective into your work.
- You know when to be scrappy and when to slow down, and you're actively figuring out where AI tools help your process and where they get in the way.
- You're a confident communicator who can present work, defend design decisions with evidence, and mentor others through feedback.
- You want to keep growing, and you're motivated by helping the people around you grow too.
Work Experience
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in product design, UX design, or a design-related field, with a track record of shipping complex features end-to-end
- A portfolio demonstrating strong UX and visual design craft, deep process, and measurable outcomes at scale
- Strong proficiency in Figma, including component systems and advanced interactive prototyping
- Solid grounding in user-centered design methodologies, applied independently
- Working knowledge of accessible design practices and WCAG standards, with experience designing for them from the outset
- Experience using AI-assisted tools as a core part of your design process, with a clear point of view on where they add value and where they don't
- Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including experience mentoring or giving feedback to other designers
- A degree or certification in UX Design, Product Design, HCI, Communication Design, or Graphic Design, or equivalent practical experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
Nice to Have
- Meaningful experience in conversion, e-commerce, subscription, or other growth-oriented design work
- Experience designing and analyzing A/B or multivariate tests, including partnering directly with data/analytics teams
- Experience designing for living room devices (Apple TV, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Fire TV)
- Experience contributing to or evolving an established design system at scale
- Experience designing for global or localized markets
