About the Role & Team

The CG Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the quality and technical execution of all CG elements. This position works closely with the Production Team of the assigned series, Studio Lead Technical Director, and Creative Leadership. When required this position will also participate in ongoing pipeline improvement efforts as software use continues to grow and evolve. This position requires technical skills combined with refined artistic skills, including an eye for composition, color, lighting, and a strong knowledge of animation principles. Ensuring the visual quality meets the artistic vision while adhering to production schedules, technical standards, approved production schedules and budgetary parameters.

Partnering with the EP’s, Supervising Producer, Animation Director, and Art Director to ensure the translation of the creative team’s vision into modeling, rigging, surfacing, lighting, and effects both creatively and technically.

The CG Supervisor will ensure flow of communication with Animation Service Providers to come up with efficient pipeline and workflow methodologies from pre-build to shot production to best execute the creative vision in budget and on schedule.

What You Will Do

  • Oversee and guide production to ensure CG look and feasibility of the show.
  • Collaborate with creative leadership to translate storyboards, characters and environment designs into high-quality CG assets.
  • Oversees the development of CG assets like characters, rigging, lighting set-ups, environments, and effects.
  • Partner with the Animation Service Provider to ensure smooth operation of the CG pipeline, including modeling, rigging, surfacing, animation, effects, lighting and compositing.
  • Identifying and resolving technical challenges related to CG assets and production.
  • Present possible solutions to production problems
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in CG software and techniques.
  • Reviewing and approving all CG work, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuing high visual quality.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement necessary adjustments to maintain consistent quality.
  • Identify, address and partner directly with the animation service provider throughout the production to strategize solutions around complexity and scope. Travel to animation studios as needed to monitor production and address creative or scheduling concerns.
  • Assist in creating materials for marketing, promos, and other ancillary projects as needed.
  • Work with the creative team to review and approve assets and shots within parameters of the show’s allowance and schedule.
  • Work with the production team to ensure all the creative notes are completed and sent to overseas studios in a timely fashion.
  • Proactively identify and address creative, staffing, or pipeline issues to minimize schedule or budget impact.
  • Potentially oversee multiple series, ensuring consistency and alignment with creative goals.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Extensive experience in CG animation and production, preferably series CG animation production.
  • Strong leadership qualities include strategic thinking, communication skills, both written and verbal, adaptability, and abilities to identify efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate artistic vision with technical expertise. Expertise in industry CG software like Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Blender, Arnold, After Effects.
  • Solution-oriented outlook and an initiative-taking personality; willing to roll up their sleeves and directly fix shot data, or asset issues.
  • Experience working with overseas animation studios.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Computer Graphics, or Bachelor of Arts in Film and Animation Production, or equivalent industry experience required.


The pay rate for this role in California is $3,000.00 to $3,460.00 weekly, based on a 40-hour work week. which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
