Director of Regional Security Operations, APAC Global Security

The Director of REGIONAL Security Operations (Dir Ops) oversees local oversight, assistance and response for all security needs at The Walt Disney Company. Reporting to the Vice President, Global Security, APAC who is based in Singapore, this role is responsible for managing event security, production security, studio security, asset and content protection, investigative and intelligence support, travel security, workplace security, security technology, crisis management, business continuity and incident monitoring across the region.
Responsibilities
The Dir Ops serve a critical role in safeguarding TWDC’s APAC operations by leveraging established systems and fostering collaboration across all levels. Areas of accountability include (but are not limited to):
Leadership (People & Resources)
- Leads and manages seven (7) market-focused and functional security teams within the APAC region, including but not limited to ANZ, Greater China, Japan & Korea.
- Leads cross-functional operations on events management, intelligence and threat assessments, and crisis and risk management.
- Ensure consistency and strategic development of staffing while being responsible for the execution of a broad range of security-related products, services, and programs.
- Provides minimal day-to-day direction to regional security managers, while building their skills/capabilities. Cross-pollinate the knowledge base across the team, through frequent and substantive team meetings; remain closely connected to their efforts; and be well-engaged to address challenges/concerns/strategic and tactical opportunities.
- Builds and sustains a strong team culture, in which team members feel supported, empowered, and motivated, while displaying a relentless focus on excellence, teamwork, and collaboration.
- Collaborates with HR, Finance, and other key Partners to navigate relevant and important processes and develop effective strategies.
- Understands APAC and its various cultural and geopolitical nuisances, including leadership experience in the APAC region.
- Develops and manages the annual security operations budget, ensuring alignment with financial targets and contributing to the regional Annual Operating Plan (AOP). Partner with the Vice President on the 5-Year Plan and CAPEX planning, ensuring a holistic and strategic approach to resource planning. Contribute to and participate in Global Security coaching, mentoring and training opportunities, as appropriate, to hone leadership skills and profile. Look for opportunities to share best practices and lessons learned, as well as developing APAC Security talents for succession planning.
Leadership (Operations & Strategy)
- Oversees the development and execution of the functional security strategy across the APAC region. in compliance with TWDC Global Security Standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Evaluates and articulates key security support challenges and, in partnership with direct reports, develops new and/or innovative, as well as cost-effective solutions.
- Assesses the performance and results of the daily execution of the APAC Security functional strategy – serving as the Quality Assurance lead – to ensure the implementation of best practices and lessons learned; the effective oversight of vendor management and conducts quarterly review of vendor performance;
- Leads the development and execution of APAC security operations strategy with clear goals and objectives, deliverables, action owners, and timelines aligned to Global Security (GS) and APAC goals.
- Leads in the development and implementation of an Insider Threats program and a Workplace Safety/Security program.
- Evaluates and assesses Intelligence program to offer recommendations for improvement.
Cross-Functional Excellence and Crisis & Risk Management
- Serves as the lead expert on APAC-wide operational risk environment – working closely with the APAC Intelligence Team -- assessing unique, current and emerging risks and threats, and managing security requirements for each market. Serves as the strategic lead for effective operations, building transparent, repeatable and effective processes, as well as applicable policies and procedures.
- Collaborates not only within the APAC region but connects with peers in Corporate and across other regions to ensure alignment, consistency and connectivity.
- Guides APAC Operations/Crisis & Risk Management teams to ensure the effective and efficient execution of the Security Risk Management Assessment program.,
- Oversees the Crisis Management program, ensuring the ever-strengthening partnership with business leadership and the implementation of training, exercises, and awareness for the Global Security APAC team as well as the various lines of business teams.
- Leads the development and implementation of emergency management plans and business continuity plans for each subregion within APAC and assesses and remediates, if necessary, the overall quality and effectiveness of each sub-region’s incident response capability. Provides technical expertise and leads exercises, drills, and training in support of Crisis/Incident preparation and management.
Stakeholder Management & Strategic Relationships
- Serves as the regional point of contact for country, business, and functional leads on security matters, providing subject matter expertise (SME) on planning, risk profiling, and physical security solutions for APAC clients.
- Crafts and executes an annual survey plan for customer and stakeholder feedback.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with Global Security teams, especially with those Corporate and International peers to ensure greater alignment, consistency and transparency in the delivery of security products and services.
- Invests in external partnerships to build dynamic networks: professional security organizations; law enforcement (local, federal, and international, as applicable); conference and training cohorts; and peers in the production and event security industry.
Requirements
- Minimum of 15+ years of experience in law enforcement and/or private sector corporate security or a related public sector organization, including extensive experience in physical security, special events, Crisis & Risk Management, intelligence analysis, and/or security investigations, as well as developing and implementing effective security plans, systems, and controls.
- Significant experience working in the APAC region and/or working with international partners to achieve a common goal. Experience and understanding of business and geopolitical risks in APAC.
- Strong strategic and analytical skills, capable of assessing and communicating the risk implications of local, regional and world events/incidents/developments on TWDC’s operations and assets in the APAC region, as well as making sound decisions and designing practical solutions.
- Proven ability to align security strategies with commercial objectives while respecting company culture and values.
- Ability to operate effectively within a matrixed organization and develop consensus and influence without authority, working across an environment of diverse operational activities, cultures and geographic locations.
- Demonstrated success in measuring performance and leading Quality Assurance programs.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a focus on leveraging those skills to translate Global Security’s strategic vision into APAC security goals and objective and executing plans in a collaborative and inclusive security culture.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. Attendance to meetings outside of working hours will be required
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and strong grasp of written and spoken English.
- Expertise in defining and implementing security incident response plans.
- Strong interpersonal and guest service skills, especially in crisis situations.
- Proven ability to make critical decisions, prioritize issues, and initiate appropriate responses with minimal supervision.
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills across all organizational levels.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Working knowledge of criminal law, investigative procedures, and crime prevention practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage a high caseload effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a practical approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to function in one or more APAC-based languages, such as Chinese-Mandarin, Chinese-Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, etc.
- Master’s degree on International Relations, Criminal Justice, and/or Security-related discipline.
- Ability to travel at short notice.
- Understanding and experience in addressing cybercrime and/or cybersecurity.
- Certified in First Aid, CPR, and/or AED usage.
- Experience working in the entertainment industry.
- Certifications in CPP, CFE, Crisis Management, and/or Intelligence Management, or equivalent.
