As a Sr. Principal Software Engineer, you will be part of our mission to build out a new state-of-the-art software development center in Bangalore. You will embed with teams in the USA to develop relationships and gain an understanding of our software and practices. You will then be an instrumental part in architecting solution, setting standards, and mentoring our new engineering teams.

You will be a thought leader for an engaging, dynamic and inclusive engineering organization, grounded in scrum and agile practices, CI/CD, collaboration, and delivering quality solutions; motivated by a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

The new Bangalore Development Center delivers frontend and backend solutions across The Walt Disney Company’s product line including but not limited to: D+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Parks. Our teams build and run high-traffic and globally replicated systems which form an integral and visible part of every user’s journey at Disney properties.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as the authority on design and coding best practices and assisting in building and implementing related guidelines and standards.

  • Define system architecture and drive solutions that span multiple teams and organizations

  • Maintain a deep understanding of our core systems and how they interact with upstream and downstream dependencies.

  • Contribute and review code, set standards, and work with engineers to ensure product and design specifications are met

  • Responsible for fundamental platform performance, scalability, and resiliency

  • Partner with stakeholders to refine requirements, and propose solutions to problems that span multiple teams

  • Influence and contribute to department technical strategy and planning

  • Provide mentoring to engineers on advanced technical issues

  • Research, learn, and evangelize widespread adoption of new technologies and architecture patterns

  • Lead cross-functional troubleshooting of complex issues for our most critical problem-solving needs

  • Strategic planning and vision focused on experimenting with and deploying new technologies

  • Partner with leaders from other teams to ensure the planning and delivery of medium and large-scale projects

  • Present to senior leadership overviews of system capabilities and recommend technical strategy and needs

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a relevant technical field of study.

  • 12+ years relevant industry experience

  • Strong communication skills and ability to distill complex technical concepts into succinct summaries

  • Has been the main contributor driving the design, implementation, and deployment of multiple high volume, cross-functional enterprise-level systems

  • Has frequently taken a leading role in initiatives that span across one or more departments in your division

  • Expertise with full lifecycle of application development, including best practices of unit testing, code reviews, documentation, etc.

  • Expertise designing APIs and building RESTful services

  • Mastery of Java and exposure to open-source technologies like; Kotlin, Spring, Tomcat, Nginx, Solr, Redis, MongoDB, GraphQL, etc

  • Mastered knowledge in cloud-based technologies such as AWS EC2, SQS, S3, Lambdas, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, CloudFormation/Terraform, Fargate, etc.

  • Highly knowledgeable with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins and Docker

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.

  • Thrives working in a team setting with engineers of varying experience

  • Experience building consumer facing applications specializing in streaming media

  • Up to date on security best practices and expectations within the

  • Expert understanding of programming models and system integrations(eventing, callbacks, etc)
