Job Summary:

The Media Planning & Buying Team at ESPN develops innovative media plans that drive awareness, consumption, subscriptions, and brand affinity across all properties and platforms to affect the ESPN business. 

The Performance Marketing team is responsible for driving new subscriber growth for ESPN’s Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) products. We develop data-driven strategies using high-impact creative assets that drive awareness, subscriptions, and engagement across digital platforms.

The Media Planner will focus on supporting the holistic media strategy and planning direct to consumer performance media efforts across a variety of campaigns and sports. The Media Planner takes pleasure in getting to “do it all”, supporting projects that blur the lines between marketing, research, operations and creative. This role provides foundational experience in how the world of performance media operates in the fast-paced environment of multiplatform live sports and content. 

The ideal candidate possesses outstanding organizational and communication skills, has superior attention to detail, can provide objective analysis, has the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work with autonomy, maintain a relentless curiosity to understand how everything connects, all while meeting deadlines. This position will report to the Associate Director, Performance Media and collaborate closely with others in the group, as well as across ESPN and The Walt Disney Company.

This individual must enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a proven ability to handle a high-volume workload and navigate a matrixed organization with a positive attitude and a solutions-oriented mindset. This role reports into the Associate Director Performance Media. This role is based in New York, NY.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting Performance Media leads and contributing to media plans across multiple sports
  • Coordinate campaign logistics to ensure timely execution
  • Create and maintain key planning documents
  • Steward effective communication and understanding needs across marketing, creative and external partners to lead campaign spec sheets & deliverables, campaign timelines and assist in the trafficking process to ensure timely launch of media campaigns across paid media
  • Monitor and assess ongoing campaign performance; assist in strategic analysis and recommendations for campaigns
  • Assist with tracking and management of the performance media budget
  • Stay on top of sports industry trends, ad products, consumer and viewing behaviors to inform Media plans; provide point of view on relevant marketing campaigns

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 months of professional experience in integrated media planning (brand, corporate, agency or publisher side preferred) or strong internship experience in marketing or media entertainment also relevant
  • Knowledge of media channels and experience coordinating across multiple media disciplines with a heavy focus on digital media
  • Effective collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze performance metrics and apply data-driven insights to optimize campaigns
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams, external partners, and multiple stakeholders
  • Genuine interest in sports and is excited to influence and impact the fan experience
  • Extremely organized and motivated, with the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Works with urgency, proficient time management, problem solving skills and a critical thinker

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong entertainment industry knowledge, preferably in sports
  • Multi-platform paid media experience
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Curiosity and passion for understanding the “why” underneath the surface
  • Conscientious

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Media, Marketing, or a related field

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $55,800.00 to $74,800.00 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
